Tuesday 12/21/21 Aiken, SC to Jacksonville, FL
I woke up at 7am to make a little more progress on my blog. Eldon and Moreno are still sleeping.
Since it wasn’t raining yet and we have good Wi-Fi here at the farm I decided to take advantage and do some blogging. It was 40 degrees outside. Yay for our heater. We had coffee and cocoa in the trailer and I got to catch up on my blog writing. Moreno slumming on the “couch” just like at home.
Now it’s 10am AND it started to rain!!!! That’s ok, we are nice and dry in our Alto and drinking coffee and hot chocolate.
The rain did let up some and we were able to take a nice walk around the property. Moreno was running off leash making some moves that would be the envy of any Pro football player. I love to see him be able to let out some long hard runs. He looks so happy and you can feel his exhilaration.
Time to bundle up and walk Moreno.
Finally about 11:30 we pulled out of Stable View to head to Jacksonville, FL and visit with Buddy and Jimmie Antone for the evening. We were planning to come here Dec. 30 but this makes more sense (now) to do it today considering the cold here in South Carolina.
Once again we are driving along some beautiful two lane roads lined with these oh so tall and skinny trees. Every once in a while there might be a dead dear that didn’t make it across the road. Sad but it happens. I hope we don’t hit one.
The rains came hard while Eldon was driving and he ended up doing all the driving today. He is amazing. We arrived safely to Jacksonville and Jimmy met us at the entrance to their driveway. That was a very good thing since in the dark we would have thought twice about taking that driveway. Seriously, driveway is a polite descriptor for a wet dirt track through wilderness.
We had not seen Buddy (Jimmy’s dad) for over 30 years. He looks and sounds good and we enjoyed going out for dinner with him. He insisted in paying so we said “thank you”. Weather was cold and wet but that’s part of this time of the year. Apparently we have brought cold and very wet weather to everyone so far.
Just as Eldon was going to do Moreno’s night walk the rain started up again. Time to dry both of them and go to bed. We want to get a reasonably early start tomorrow and declined Buddy’s plan to take us to IHOP for breakfast, as good as pancakes sounded. Fortunately the dinner was its usual southern style excessive, so once again we have fried chicken and fish for dinner tacos tomorrow.
Rain still coming, sounds nice from inside.
